Kids' Heart Challenge: This week, we will kick off our Kids' Heart Challenge to benefit the American Heart Association. Refer to my email from earlier this week to see how to get the word out and secure donations. Everything is online and every little bit helps! Our goal is to raise $8000 to exceed last year's donation! We will wrap up the event on 2/10 with a Jump Rope Jump Off and some other celebratory surprises in the gym. This is a great opportunity for us to teach students about heart-healthy activities and how to spread some love through generosity.

eLearning: Please note the school calendar and plan for our first scheduled eLearning Day for the year. Students will bring home their laptops and participate in eLearning on 1/25. This provides an opportunity for our staff to participate in schoolwide professional development. Teachers will have office hours from 9:00-10:30 to check in and assist students as needed. Assignments for eLearning will be posted in Canvas by 3pm on 1/24 and due by Monday morning on 1/30. Students must participate in order to be marked present for that school day. We are scheduled for a final eLearning day on March 1. For more detailed information, check out the link below!

Help Wanted: At Thorntown, we are in immediate need of a part-time cafeteria worker (Hours 10-1, daily) and a bus driver! Please help spread the word. Mrs. Pearson, our Transportation Director, and some of her crew will host information booths at athletic events in each building to help recruit drivers for needs across the district. Come join our amazing team!

ATHLETIC OPPORTUNITIES

5th Grade Basketball: We are still putting together our 5th Grade Girls' and Boys' basketball teams. Our school-based teams are focused on teaching the fundamentals of the game while having some competitive fun. Each team will play a five-game season, with a mix of 'home' and 'away' games. There is no cost to students to participate. If you have a 5th grade boy or girl who is interested, sign them up through Final Forms. For more information, contact Mr. Rausch at

Winter Youth Volleyball- Coach Bragg and her varsity staff are excited to hold their winter volleyball club again this year. Practice will start in Mid-January and run through the beginning of March for students in PK- 8th grade. More information will be available as soon as practice and competition dates are finalized. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to Coach Bragg at

Jr High Wrestling: Jr High Wrestling is open to all boys and girls in grades 6th, 7th, and 8th. There will be a parent meeting on Monday 12/05 at 6pm. The meeting will be at Webo, upstairs in the room off the wrestling room. Optional preseason practices on December 6th, 7th, 8th and December 13th, 14th, 15th from 5:30-6:30pm. First official practice will be January 3rd from 5-6:30pm. The team will practice Monday- Friday. 6th graders can ride the bus to the high school after school. Wrestlers can work on homework upstairs in the study hall room off the wrestling room until the start of practice. Parents need to contact the school to arrange bus transportation to the high school. All wrestlers must have a physical turned in to the athletic office, and all Final Forms completed before they can practice. Anyone participating in basketball can come out for the wrestling team after the completion of the jr high basketball season. Please contact Coach Mabie with any questions. 765-623-4958

ADDITIONAL INFO:
Visitors/Volunteers: We are excited to welcome parent volunteers and visitors for special events. We ask that visitors arrive after 8:15 to allow us to get through arrival and secure the building, before opening up the sign-in stations. We will not have visitors join students for lunch, as no visitors will be permitted in the cafeteria during meal times. Please note that all volunteers and visitors to the school must scan in with a driver's license or government-issued identification each time they visit. Volunteers will need to complete a criminal background check prior to helping with classrooms or attending field trips. Regular volunteers will still need their identification to be scanned prior to entry each time they visit. Don't leave home without it!

Meals:  The cost for breakfast is $1.50 per day. Lunch will cost $2.00 per day. This will allow you to deposit funds and receive an alert when your balance is low. If you prefer to send lunch money to school with your child, you can pay by cash or check. Your child can turn the money into his/her teacher or directly to the cafeteria manager.

Snacks & Water Bottles:  Students are permitted to bring a snack for individual consumption each day. We ask that they do not store snack for multiple days, as it can attract critters. Students are also invited to bring a water bottle each day, filled only with water
